The clash will take place in Girona at the Montilivi City Stadium.
Girona
No one would have guessed that by the 10th round Girona would be second in the Table with 22 points, just one point behind Real Madrid. Their only defeat this season was against Real Madrid, with a 3:0 loss which was not at all surprising. Prior to this, the burgundy team remained unbeaten in La Liga for 7 matches, six of which were wins. Before the international break, Girona managed a small victory over Cadiz while enjoying a numerical advantage for the entire second half (0:1). The only goal was scored by Aleix Garcia in the 59th minute.
The hosts have so far scored 19 goals in the championship but have also conceded 11 times - more than any other team in the top five and as many times as ninth-place Valencia. Girona is only in its fourth La Liga campaign, with the three previous ones ending in 10th, 18th, and 10th positions respectively. Despite the excellent results, Girona has a significant number of players currently in the infirmary.
Almeria
Almeria's season has started far less successfully than Girona's, and they currently sit at the bottom of the table. Most likely, the visitors will stay there even after the weekend, as Granada leads them by three points. Despite leading 3:0 at halftime, the Andalusians managing to draw level 3:3 with Granada at home, only to be thrashed 3:0 by Athletic Bilbao. Last season, Almeria finished 17th in the Spanish league, narrowly avoiding relegation in the final round, so it's unsurprising that the team is once again fighting for survival. Under the guidance of Gaizka Garitano, who replaced Vicente Moreno at the end of September, the team will seek to break an unsatisfactory run of away results: three out of four matches outside their home ground were losses.
Head-to-head
Last season, Girona thrashed their opponents at home 6:2, whereas Almeria secured a win on their home turf (3:2).
Prediction for Girona vs Almeria
Girona has been in excellent form since the start of the season and should easily secure a home win on Sunday. A fortuitous set of circumstances may see the burgundy team retaking the top spot, while Almeria is unlikely to leave the 20th spot even in the event of a win. The visitors' problems are exacerbating by an overcrowded infirmary, so I'm backing Girona with a -1 handicap.
Total goals prediction
Hosts scored 19 goals in 9 games – only three other clubs in Spanish football have more. On the contrary, Almeria conceded a whopping 24 goals – an average of 3 per game. On Sunday, I expect Girona to score at least two goals.
Corner prediction
Girona will attack the visitors' goal from the get-go, so I'm backing the hosts to secure a win in corners in the first half.
Bookings prediction
To compensate for a lack of skill, the visitors will need to commit a lot of fouls – I'm backing Almeria to collect more bookings.
Correct score prediction
I'm predicting a 3:0 win for Girona.
