On Saturday, 30th September, in the scope of the Spanish La Liga's 8th round, Girona will host Real Madrid at their home field. On Wednesday, Los Blancos celebrated a victory with a 2:0 result against Las Palmas, while they continue to surprise experts by besting Villarreal on the road 1:2 that same evening.
Girona: Gazzaniga; A Martinez, E Garcia, D Lopez, Gutierrez; Tsygankov, Herrera, A Garcia, Martin, Savio; Dovbyk.
Real Madrid: Kepa; Carvajal, Rudiger, Nacho, F Garcia; Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga; Bellingham; Vinicius, Rodrygo.
The face-off will take place in Girona at the Municipal Montilivi Stadium.
The presence of City Group is undoubtedly one of the main reasons why Girona demonstrates such impressive results at the beginning of the season, but it’s not the only one. Certainly, the recruitment of seasoned staff plays a crucial role in the club’s operation, but the labour by the employees and the personal qualities of the players are also astonishing. This week, the team topped the La Liga table after beating Villarreal on the road (1:2), therefore accumulating 19 points in seven rounds. Prior to this, the Catalan team was unbeatable, securing five victories and a draw: Girona beat Getafe (3:0), Las Palmas (1:0), and Mallorca (5:3) at their home ground. It's worth mentioning that last season, Michel's disciples came 10th and even aimed for a place in the Europa League, so the progress of the white and red is evident.
This week, Real hosted Las Palmas, against whom they’d never lost on Santiago Bernabeu, and the 'royal club' extended this winning streak by claiming a 2:0 victory. Brahim Diaz got on the score sheet at the end of the first half, while Joselu scored at the beginning of the second, and Carlo Ancelotti's team claimed their sixth win in the championship. The triumph allowed Los Blancos to redeem themselves before their fans after the heavy defeat in the Madrid derby against Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano (3:1). Last season the guests, who came second after Barcelona, couldn't even imagine that they would be competing with Girona at the top of the table, and yet — that is the reality. Two weeks ago, Los Blancos began their Champions League group stage journey, overcoming Berlin's Union with a score of 1:0 — and they're already mentally preparing for the competition with Napoli.
Arda Guler's injuries (the newcomer from Fenerbahce) have the club seriously worried, as he hasn't played even a minute since his transfer. After returning to training last week, he got injured again and will miss the match. Joining him in the infirmary are the Belgian goalkeeper Courtois and centre back Militao, both of whom are suffering from anterior cruciate ligament ruptures. Austrian defender Alaba will also be missing this weekend, but on the bright side, right back Carvajal has returned to the squad. Vinicius is also available for field play. Ancelotti will have a constellation of stars at his disposal in Real's midfield: Bellingham, Tchouameni, Kroos, Camavinga, Valverde, and Modric will all compete for a place in the heart of the pitch.
Real hasn't performed well against Girona in La Liga, having won only two of the last six meetings while suffering three losses. Last season, the Catalans beat Los Blancos on home ground by a score of 4:2.
However strange it might sound, a competition for the lead in La Liga will take place at the Estadi Montilivi, where Girona has bested all rivals in the current campaign. The Catalans will strive to build on their superb start (6 wins, 1 loss), yet it must be acknowledged that Real is a bird of a different feather. Vinicius and Carvajal have returned, adding to Real's creative offensive force. My prediction is victory for the guests.
A wealth of goals is assured in this match: both teams racked up 31 goals in seven starting rounds. My prediction is an overall TO 2.5.
Real, as the match's favourite, will lay claim to the ball and will steadily crack open the white-and-red's defence, while the hosts primarily rely on counter-attacks. I expect a victory for the Madrilenians regarding corner kicks.
Both teams on average earn 2 yellow cards per game, so a prediction on a total of warnings is TU 4.5.
I predict a precise score of 1:3 in favour of Real.
