On Saturday, November 11, as part of the 12th round of the Premier League, Bournemouth will host Newcastle United at their home ground. The Cherries were routed by Manchester City with a score of 6:1 last weekend, whereas the Black and Whites, after a triumph over Arsenal, lost in the Champions League to Borussia Dortmund by 2:0.
Bournemouth: Radu; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Rothwell; Christie, Semenyo, Sinisterra; Solanke.
Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Lascelles, Hall; Willock, Longstaff, Joelinton; Livramento, Gordon, Almiron.
The match will take place in Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth has been facing difficulties this season and currently holds the 18th place in the Premier League table, having the same number of collected points as Luton Town, who is just above them. Having failed to win in the first 9 rounds (3 draws and 6 defeats), the Cherries have unsurprisingly made their fans anxious. After that, the red-and-blacks beat Burnley at home with a score of 2:1, then suffered a humiliating defeat from Manchester City with a score of 6:1 last weekend.
The main star of the match at the Etihad was Jeremy Doku: the Belgian first scored in mid-time, then gave four assists - two to Bernardo Silva, one to Manuel Akanji and another to Phil Foden. The consolation goal from Luis Sinisterra was all the away Cherries' fans could boast of, especially since the count of only four goals remains the worst in the Premier League at the moment. If Burnley and Sheffield United defeat Arsenal and Brighton respectively, Bournemouth is at risk of going into the international break at the bottom of the aggregate count.
Now considered a top club in England, Newcastle is obviously ambitious this season. Despite a poor start, the Magpies currently hold the 6th place in the Premier League table, trailing the top four by 4 points. The visitors lost 3 out of their last 4 matches in September but eventually found their form (5 victories and 2 draws). Last weekend, backed by their fans, the Black and Whites thanks to Anthony Gordon's goal managed to win over Arsenal (1:0), who had been undefeated in the league until then. On Tuesday, Newcastle suffered a defeat from Borussia Dortmund (2:0) and now finds itself at the bottom of its Champions League group (a 2-point gap from the second place) - Niklas Füllkrug and Julian Brandt both scored goals.
In the past nine away games, Newcastle has only clinched two victories, although its number of goals on the opponent's field (13) is only rivalled by Tottenham (14). Key players Botman, Bern, and Isak, as well as Anderson, Murphy, and Barnes remain injured. The same applies to Manquillo, and Targett. Finally, Italian midfielder Tonali was banned for half a year after a sports betting scandal. Last weekend, winger Gordon (4 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League) scored the winning goal against Arsenal, he is thus expected to form a pair in the attack alongside Callum Wilson (7 goals in 10 matches), especially in the absence of Isak (6 goals in 8 matches).
In February this year, the teams drew 1:1 at the Vitality Stadium, yet the Magpies haven't known defeat against Bournemouth for eight consecutive matches - back in November 2017, the Cherries managed by Howe prevailed with a score of 1:0 thanks to Steve Cook's 90th-minute goal.
Newcastle has an excellent opportunity to close the gap to the table leaders and make up for its Champions League failure to its fans. Bournemouth languishes at the bottom of the Premier League, and the Cherries' manager Iraola is under threat of dismissal. Even considering the crowded medical room, the Mariners should easily triumph at the Vitality.
Newcastle owns the second-best attack in the Premier League after Manchester City, having scored 27 goals in 11 rounds. Bournemouth, in contrast, has conceded as many over an identical period. My prediction is that the visitors' individual total will be over 1.5.
Newcastle significantly surpasses the opponent in class and will be attacking more actively – which means it will win the corners with a -1.5 handicap.
As strange as it may sound, Newcastle earns warnings even more frequently than Bournemouth given the current campaign. I bet that the visitors will not yield in this regard on Saturday.
I put my money on an exact score of 0:2 in favour of Newcastle.
