On Saturday, October 21, as part of the 9th Premier League tour, Bournemouth will host Wolves. While the Cherries are in the relegation zone, their guests occupy the 14th place in the league table, four points clear from the bottom three.
Bournemouth: Neto; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Rothwell; Tavernier, Billing, Sinisterra; Solanke.
Wolves: Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Doherty, Gomes, Bellegarde, Ait-Nouri; Neto, Cunha, Hwang.
The match will take place in Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth, conducting its second season in the elite division, does not set any serious goals besides avoiding relegation. Currently, the Cherries are in a dire situation, as evidenced by their 19th and penultimate place in the overall Premier League standings. The Red and Blacks failed to record a single win in the current campaign (3 draws and 5 losses). After the international break in September, Bournemouth initially drew at home with Chelsea (0:0) and then suffered three defeats against Brighton (3:1), Arsenal (0:4) and Everton in the last round (3:0).
The hosts have scored the fewest goals (5) in the division and are struggling at home: they have failed to win any of their last six Premier League games at their own ground, and have only won three out of 14 games at the Vitality since the start of the year. Given all this, the club's coach Andoni Iraola is close to being dismissed.
Wolves did not have the best start to the new campaign: a few days before the season started, the club was left without a head coach, Julen Lopetegui. Currently, Gary O'Neil's team is in 14th place in the Premier League and is four points clear of the relegation zone, however, the Orange men have gone undefeated in their last three matches. Behind a surprising victory over Manchester City (2:1) followed draws with Luton (1:1) and Aston Villa (1:1). Hwang Hee-Chan opened the score early in the second half, but the Birmingham side responded almost immediately with a fine shot from Pau Torres. Recently, Wolves have been having trouble on the road: they have won only one of their last 12 Premier League away games. However, the schedule is favouring the visitors: upcoming away duels with Bournemouth, Sheffield United, and Fulham are on the horizon.
Wolves' head coach will not be able to count on main defender Hugo Bueno, who missed the last two matches due to injury. Also, midfielder Lemina is suspended after being sent off against Aston Villa. However, the return of experienced Bellegarde is good news. South Korean forward Hwang (5 goals in the Premier League) is in great shape and well-deservedly made it to the starting eleven, while Pedro Neto (1 goal and 5 assists) and Matheus Cunha (1 goal and 1 assist) will accompany him. O'Neil is likely to stick to the 3-4-3 system, in which Matt Doherty will replace the suspended Nelson Semedo, and Rayan Ait-Nouri will take to the flank of defence.
Wolves haven't lost any of their previous three meetings with Bournemouth in the Premier League: a 2:1 victory in November 2019, 1:1 and 0:0 draws respectively in February 2019 and August 2022.
Bournemouth urgently need to break their winless run if they want to claw their way out of the relegation zone. Last season, the visitors failed to score in both home and away matches against the Red and Blacks, but over the past few months, Wolves have found good form and settled in the middle of the table. Given the hosts' crowded medical room, a bet on Wolves to remain unbeaten seems justified.
In five of the six previous encounters, the teams did not score more than two goals combined. Neither side is known for high scoring this season, so I'm going for an overall total under 2.5.
I don't expect a plethora of dangerous moments at either team's goal, so I'm betting on an overall total corners under 8.5.
Bournemouth average 2 yellow cards per game this season, visitors - 3.5. I'm betting on Wolves to win in terms of warnings.
I'm predicting a final score of 0:1 in favour of the Wolves.
