Continental Hockey League regular championship 2023/2024. The second match of the game day is probably the most predictable match of the day, and once again begs the question of how many times the opponent will be able to score against Kunlun based in Mytishchi. This time, the attacking party against Kunlun will be Salavat Yulaev, who will host the Chinese team in Ufa.
The Ufa club clearly hit the mark with at least one of their foreign players. Livo, who joined in the course of the season, is now gaining more than a point per game and has added to Salavat Yulaev what was missing - execution in attack and some creativity. Salavat Yulaev has been good in defence all season, but needed to add in attack, which they did quite seriously, resulting in noticeable results. Eight points out of a possible ten is a remarkable result. In 2024, Salavat Yulaev has not lost so far. Currently, Salavat Yulaev is in third place in the conference, scoring 63 points after 47 matches. Salavat Yulaev earned these points thanks to 26 regular time wins, four beyond that, and three more defeats with a single point. The remaining 14 encounters were lost by the Ufa club without any additional points. As previously mentioned, Salavat Yulaev concedes the least in the East - 100 pucks. In terms of goals scored, Salavat Yulaev is second in the conference - 141 pucks.
The Chinese team had a fantastic run leading up to the break, winning four out of five matches. It seemed that the team, currently based in Mytishchi, would be vying for the play-off, but instead, they lost all their matches after the break. Now, Kunlun's losing streak has reached eight matches. Only once have they managed to gain points, losing only in overtime against Torpedo. The main issue for the Chinese club is that they have stopped scoring much. After the break, they only scored two goals in their last match against CSKA, which was the main strength of the Chinese team before the break. Currently, Kunlun is in tenth place in the conference, scoring 36 points after 49 matches. Kunlun earned these points thanks to seven wins in regular time, eight beyond that, and six more defeats with a single point. The other 28 matches were lost by Kunlun without additional points. In terms of scoring, the Chinese club is second to last - 109 goals. The situation regarding conceded goals is almost similar, except this time they are third from the bottom with 169 pucks.
Salavat Yulaev and Kunlun have played 20 matches against each other. Of these, Salavat Yulaev won 15, while Kunlun only won five matches. The teams haven't met in this season so far.
BetsCity, of course, considers Salavat Yulaev the favourite for this match, with the odds at 1.44 for their win. Conversely, for a Kunlun victory, the odds are set at 5.90. It's reasonable to place a bet on Salavat Yulaev winning this round, as it's uncertain how the Chinese team could even play a draw here.
However, I would look at the bigger odds, namely ITO1 (3.5) at 2.02. As I mentioned, Kunlun concedes quite a lot. In three of eight matches, they conceded less than four, plus Salavat who scores a lot.
