Lada Togliatti

The biggest surprise of the tournament's beginning, Lada of Togliatti returned to the KHL. Initially, it appeared their roster at most would fight for play-off participation, and the first three matches proved this. Many wrote off the team. However, Lada regrouped and began collecting points in each match, which eventually led them to 2nd place in the Eastern Conference standings. Lada kept accumulating points until a Far East trip, facing four defeats in four matches. Only the real powerhouses of the conference, Metallurg and AK Bars, are ahead. Interestingly, Lada finally moved into a positive scoring difference at 1.
